Using event venue wifi - best practices
It's always best to avoid using venue wifi, whether you need to print or not. Bringing your own wifi access that you can manage is strongly advised. Venue wifi tends to be sluggish and may have security measures that interfere or block AirPrint on your AirCastPro. We see this a lot.
We suggest purchasing an external hotspot from your cellular provider for a more reliable connection.
If you absolutely must use venue wifi, we advise disabling Print Sharing Over Networks to prevent unauthorized use of your printers and slowing down of AirCastPro. Here's how to do it:
AirCastPro 2:
From the general settings page scroll to the bottom and select mDNS Discovery. Uncheck the Outside Wifi option. If connected to venue wifi via ethernet uncheck Ethernet.
AirCastPro 3:
From the general settings page select the menu button (three horizontal lines at the top left) and select Security, then select Printer Access. Uncheck the Outside Wifi option. If connected to venue wifi via ethernet uncheck Ethernet.
Additional information:
AirCastPro does not support external wifi that requires a sign-in or a landing page (hotel room for example)
Access the AirCastPro general settings page by going to http://aircastpro.local or http://192.168.4.1
Optional Workaround:
One simple workaround with AirCastPro 3 is to print over Ethernet while keeping your iPad connected to the venue Wi-Fi for internet access.
This setup can be helpful when you need internet for sharing, texting, emailing, or AI photo booth features, but still want a more reliable connection for printing.
Important note: Some photo booths, such as Salsa 2, use a single USB-C connection to power the iPad and LED lights. In those setups, using Ethernet through the iPad’s USB-C port is not recommended, since it may interfere with the booth’s normal power and lighting setup.
